Higher Secondary (HS) programme - in Arts & Science streams under the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) and Under Graduate (UG) programme - in Arts stream under the Dibrugarh University (DU) are offered in regular mode in the college. English and MIL (Assamese) are compulsory for both HS and UG programmes,Alternative English may be offered in lieu of MIL and any four subjects may be chosen for combinations in case of Higher Secondary classes while any two subjects for UG classes. Students offering Major may opt for any two subjects other than the Major subject.
Note:  No change in subject combination is permitted after being opted in the 1st  Semester. However, there is no restriction in subject combinations.

The course structure under the semester system is given as follows:
The duration of the programmes for Degree Courses is of three years. The Three Year Degree Course comprises 6 (six) semesters of which the 1st, 3rd and 5th semesters are called Odd Semesters and the 2nd, 4th and 6th semester are known as Even Semesters.There shall be two In-Semester Examinations (First Sessional and Second Sessional Examinations) in the course of each Semester before the commencement of the End Semester Examination.
Each paper will be of 100 marks of which 20 marks will be for Internal Assessment and 80% marks for End Semester Examination. Students will have to participate in the process of Internal Assessment compulsorily, failing which they will not be allowed to appear in the End-Semester Examination.The marks obtained by students in these examinations shall be notified department-wise in the departmental notice board.A student must obtain at least 24 marks (30%) in theory papers in the End-Semester examinations and at least 6 marks (30%) in the In-Semester (Sessional) examinations to pass.

The classes of the Odd semesters (1st semester, 3rd semester and 5rd semester) shall be completed by the end of October, while that of the Even semesters (2nd semester, 4th semester and 6th semester) by the end of April respectively every year.
The 1st semester students will have to attend a Counselling Session on the 1st day of the commencement of classes. Further, “Students’Adalat” is held on 1st Saturday of every month to resolve students’ complaints and to incorporate suggestions/recommendations. “Students’ Adalat” is expected to pave equal and easy access between the students and the Principal/teachers to express openly and fearlessly their views related to academic as well as all as other matters of the college.
There shall be one End Semester Examination of three hour duration carrying 80% marks in each course of a Semester covering the entire syllabus prescribed for the course. .The types of the courses and marks allotted in both General and Major Programmes may be shown as follows:
There shall be compulsory multi-disciplinary course.This course shall cover 8 different units as approved by Dibrugarh University.The students have to opt any five of the following units for study.

3.Major features of Indian Economy (20 Marks)
4.Basic of Education and Pedagogy (20 Marks)
5.Sociology and Indian Society (20 Marks)
6.Geography of India, Physical, Economic and Political (20 Marks)
7.Tribes of India and Tribal Development (20 Marks)
8.Logical Reasoning and Numerical Ability (20 Marks) There shall be no Internal Assessment Marks in these courses.
**There shall be compulsory course on Environmental Studies of 100 marks which shall be evaluated in Grades.There shall be no Internal Assessment Marks in this course.

NB: In the 5th and 6th Semesters of the General Programmes, there shall be no Compulsory Course. Instead there shall be one Skilled-Based Courses in each of the 5th and 6th Semester.The college offers “Photoshop and Web Designing” as the only Skilled-Based Course.

Dibrugarh University has approved 7 (seven) courses as Skill based Course from which students will have to opt one course as skill based course.

Students’ learning experience is evaluated from time to time in a continuous process of evaluation system through Unit  
Tests, Periodical Examinations in the Higher Secondary Classes and through In- Semester (Sessional) Examinations,  
Seminars/Group Discussion/Assignment in the BA Semester classes. In addition to these systems of evaluation, final  
examinations are conducted by the AHSEC Council for Higher Secondary course and End-Semester Examinations by the  
Dibrugarh University for Degree Programmes.


Internal Assessment is a method of assessing a student’s punctuality, regularity and aptitude in learning process. In this  
method, different tools such as objective tests, written tests, assignments, paper presentation, group discussion etc. are  
employed.The procedure for Internal Assessment is prescribed below:
The 20% marks allotted for Internal Assessment in each course shall be based on :
(i)Sessional Examination-I
(ii)Sessional Examination-II and
(iii)Seminar/Group/Discussion/Home Assignment etc.
Distribution of marks of Internal Assessment will be as follows :
i)Sessional-I (written) will carry a total of 5 Marks (25%)
ii)Sessional-II (written) will carry a total of 5 Marks (25%)
iii)Seminar/Group Discussion/Home Assignment will carry a total of 5 Marks (25%).
iv)Attendance 5 Marks (25%)

As per DU Guideline No. DU/DR-A/8-1/12/1552 dated 18/01/2013 Marks of Internal Assessment (20%)  
for attendance shall be awarded as below:

There shall be no provision for “repeat”/ “betterment” in the sessional examinations. If a student misses any sessional  
examination for unavoidable reasons, the student may be allowed to appear in a separate examination at the discretion of  
the concerned department but with a valid reason.The marks of internal assessment secured by a candidate shall be  
carried over to his/her next legitimate chances.The students will be informed in advance about the nature of assessment.
Students shall compulsorily participate in tasks of Internal Assessment, failing which they will not be allowed to sit for the End-Semester Examination.

The word “semester” is used to mean a half-yearly programme or a half-yearly term of studies in a system of continuous evaluation.

The word “in-semester” is used to refer to the continuous studies and evaluations through the two Sessional Examinations (Sessional I & II) within the half-yearly programme.

c)End -semester:
The word“end-semester” is used to refer to the terminal processes of examinations and evaluations at the end of but within the half-yearly programme.

d)Semester Classifications:
The 1st, 3rd & 5th Semesters will be called Odd Semesters (Period: June 1- November 30), and the 2nd, 4th & 6th Semesters will be called Even Semesters (Period: December 1- May 30).

e)Skill-Based Courses:
A skill based course shall be mandatory for all students pursuing General BA Programme. The college shall offer the Skill-based Courses as per its own infrastructure and human resource feasibility.

Students attending 75% or more classes shall be allowed to appear in the examination as Regular Candidates. Students attending 60% or more classes but less than 75% shall be allowed to appear at the examination as Non-Collegiate Candidates on payment of a Non-Collegiate Fee fixed by the AHSEC. A student attending less than 60% of classes shall be declared as Dis-collegiate and will be debarred from appearing in the Annual/Final Examination. Penalty will be charged (prescribed by office from time to time) on the students who have failed to appear in the internal periodical examinations. The holding of examination and declaration of the result of the Annual Examination will be regulated by the norms of the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council.

A student should have at least 80% attendance and must obtain at least 40% marks in the In- Semester examinations to sit for the End-Semester Examination.
To be a regular candidate in the End Semester Examinations, a student must obtain 80% to 100% marks in attendance and participate in all activities performed in the process of Internal  Assessment

(i)Diploma in Computer Application (DCA) permitted by Dibrugarh University
Eligibility Criteria for Admission in DCA :
Candidates who have passed (10+2)/Higher secondary Examination in any discipline.
(ii)Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Application (PGDCA)
The course boosts the career in the Computer based jobs. It helps to get the jobs like computer operator, Network Systems analyst, administrator of application packaging, database administratoretc.
